August 2011 saw the first 72 students take their licensure exams to become Community Mental Health Officers across Ghana's 10 Regions. The students were examined by an experienced in-country team supported by Kintampo Project external examiner, Dr Ann Henry. You can read about the exam methods in the MAP curriculum document and the CMHO curriculum document. Dr Henry reports; "I was delighted to work as part of the Kintampo Rural Health Training School (KRHTS) examiner team. I was given a very warm welcome by the staff and students in Kintampo and enjoyed their wonderful hospitality. I worked as one of the licensure External Examiners for the first group of students on the Community Mental Health Officer (CMHO) programme. As an Examiner, I had the great privilege to work alongside distinguished experts in mental health in Ghana. The CMHO examiner team included Dr Asare (retired Chief Psychiatrist of Ghana), Dr Jones (Psychiatrist in Sunyani) and Father Peter (Child Psychotherapist in Sunyani,). We worked really well together as a team and shared the heavy work load over an intensive two week examining period. There were 72 CMHO students who worked enthusiastically and tirelessly through the licensure written exams, clinical assessments and research project presentations. The quality of work from the students was good, with a few exceptional students who scored highly across all of the assessments. I'm delighted to have been invited back to Ghana again for the 2012 licensure exams. Ann Henry
